Introduction

The stories that will appear here have been compiled from a variety of sources, including autobiographies, oral histories, and stories compiled several years after the incident by other family members. In some cases we have included newspaper accounts and other public documents. Wherever known, the source is indicated.  We welcome any additional stories or information that anyone is willing to share.

We are deeply indebted to Clyn Barrus and Austin Seager, who compiled many of these stories; and LaRue Barrus Gee, who prepared the text for computer presentation.
